There was pandemonium in the early hours of Monday Oct. 26th in Gwagwalada, one of the satellite towns in Abuja as youth besieged a warehouse carting away various items such as rice, semovita, flour, fertilizer, indomie, motorcycles among others.

It was gathered that three people including a pregnant woman allegedly died while no fewer than 12 persons collapsed in the stampede as people were struggling for the looted items.

Usman khaki who witnessed the incident spoke with our reporter angrily challenging those in power by hiding provisions of the government while allowing people suffer.

Usman who spoke in Hausa said President Muhammadu Buhari was no longer to be blamed for the ugly situation of the country but it is now open that it is the aides sabotaging the president’s efforts.

Other witnesses expressed their anger that what they should have been given as palliatives while hunger bite harder were kept , leaving the citizens in hunger and hardship.

They described it as unfair. Some of them insinuated that the people responsible for the storage of the items would want to resell them or use them for campaign in the nearest future.

It was gathered that the warehouse was filled to the brim and the environment was full of people struggling, pushing and all manners of efforts to grab various items. In the process, some people, mostly women were seen collapsing while others tried to revive them.

The incident led to chaos on the streets around the location, affecting the flow of traffic. Many shops and offices around the location and streets were seen closed for fear of attack.
Security personnel including the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, Vigilante group, Nigerian Army were sighted standing afar trying to control the crowd.

Though the security personnel refused to speak to the press but one of them who craved for anonymity said the operatives were being called to prevent the actions that could degenerate to loss of lives.

He said the few of them available could not prevent the looting as they were being overwhelmed by the surging crowd.
He however said that their commandant had given them order to disperse them with teargas by 11a.m

Our reporter observed that at 11am exactly, the security operatives began to disperse people with whips and the shooting of teargas.

Some of the youths were scampering for safety while others were seen struggling with their goods in a bid to escape. Even our reporter has to run for cover.

The case of looters have been trending since the #EndSars Protest. Lagos, Cross Rivers etc have had their share of the looting of goods and destruction of lives and properties.
