The middle belt over the weekend witnessed a gathering of Christians known as Old Catholic Apostolic Church (OCAC) in a regional conference at Friend’s of Jesus Centre, number 17 Genger street Agedam Gboko Benue State Nigeria.
The conference which started on Sunday, Feb. 28 with an open air crusade witnessed the faithful who gathered to sing and pray, ended on March 1 with ordination of a new set of priests by the Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Fagbohun the Presiding Bishop of the church in Nigeria and in Africa.
In the message of the Presiding Bishop, he told the congregants in their hundreds to buckle up and ensure that the theme of the year which is ‘Surpassing Harvest’ comes to pass and they have a role to play in fulfilling God’s word.
The presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Fagbohun after checking and passing through the necessary procedures for ordination in the ministry ordained four new priests.
Fr Joseph Iorkohol Gogo, Fr Godfrey Clement, Fr James Terwase Abuul and Fr Israel Chukwuzoba were the newly ordained.
They were seen as they started their first officiating responsibility of laying of hands and the distribution of holy communion in the program.
The Middle Belt Region Administrator, Msor. Levi Terkula, who also is the parish head of Friends of Jesus Parish, Gboko as a host of the conference appreciated the parishioners, partners, priests and friends of the ministry for turning out in their numbers in making the conference a success.
Different dancing troupes also performed to celebrate the conference, especially the popular Tiv Dance steps.
In an interview with some of the participants, our correspondent gathered that the Old Catholic Apostolic Church is a church that got separated from the Roman Catholic Church a few years back having discovered the need to be faithful to the teachings of the scripture.
Rev Mrs Latifa Terkula is the wife of the Middle Belt Administrator. She told our correspondent that the Old Catholic Apostolic Church is not the same with the Roman Catholic Church or any other catholic movement.
No relationship whatsoever be it financial, administrative, training or staffing. She said the OCAC is autonomous. She rated the growth of the ministry as 100 per cent and further said they are not in a hurry to gather crowd but those that are ready to be faithful to God.
In her words, she confirmed that the Old Catholic Apostolic Church believes that their priests had a choice to marry or stay without Marriage if so called. She explains that instead of Marriage to distract the work of God, it strengthens it.
Another cleric in the ministry, Msgr Oko Micheal Oko from Jesus the resurrection parish, Abuja who was the speaker in the vigil on the first day of the conference and preached on the need to seek first the Kingdom of God and all other things shall be added quoting from the book of Mathew 6.33 also spoke to the Expozer in an interview.
He stressed on the four pillars of the ministry being the foundational pillars on which the church, OCAC stands.
“Things we do are things that are either written in the scripture, done by the Lord Jesus Christ himself, done by the first Apostles and things done by the early Christians during the 1000 years of the church with no heresy teachings. Anything outside these four pillars is not OCAC”, he said.
Worshipers were seen jubilating and happy throughout the conference as many were prayed for with healing testimonies being shared.
Other dignitaries in attendance commended the effort of the middle belt region of the church. Very Rev.Fr. John Oamen from warri, Delta State, the rector of the Old Catholic Apostolic Church, Fr Rowland Oyebode and many others were not left out.
