Court sentence prophet to life imprisonment for manslaughter
An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Friday has sentenced a self-acclaimed prophet, Olakanye Oni to life imprisonment for manslaughter.
Justice Abiodun Adesodun held that the prosecution has proved it case beyond a reasonable doubt, hence sentenced the convict.
The prosecution team led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Julius Ajibare, the convict had sometimes in March 2017 invited one Gbadamosi Omowale from Lagos to Ado Ekiti on the pretence that he has a solution to her barrenness.
Ajibare said that the victim arrived at Odo, Ado Ekiti and had reported to the Church, ‘Palace of Mercy’ on Mathew Street, owned by the convict.
He had told the court that the convict then hypnotized the victim and lured her into his room and thereafter spread a white cloth on her and raped her.
Ajibare had further told the court that the convict used a white handkerchief and cleaned the victim’s private part and inserted a substance believed to be potash into her vagina.
He said that the convict went further and collected N50,000 from the victim and subsequently, the vagina of the victim got rotten as a result of the substance inserted into it by the and the victim eventually died.
The prosecution called six witnesses to prove his case while the defence counsel, Mr Chris Omokhafe, only called the convict and one other person as witnesses.
In his judgement, Justice Adesodun held that the prosecution has proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and found the defendant guilty of the offence of manslaughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment
